Stanchion Re-Chrome
The stanchions are the part of the fork that slides into the lowers or outer tube and over time these can wear and oxidise. This can create a multitude of issues such as leaks. It’s not very well known that the stanchion can be saved if it is heavily eroded. However, depending on the severity of the corrosion, if it is not possible for us to polish it out, we can re-chrome the stanchion. See below for this service.
We aim to make this service as easy as we can for the customer. You can either bring your bike or loose suspension to our workshop as we have the facility to accommodate all makes and models on-road and off-road. For loose suspension speak to a member of staff and we will arrange a collection. Easy and stress-free.

- Over periods of time when your forks haven’t been cleaned or stone chips penetrate the chrome this causes the steel tube to corrode and it can be quite sharp if left untreated.
- Minor chipping can be polished out using emery cloth
- Severe chipping needs to be rechromed as it will cause your fork seals to leak, remove the coating from your bushes and you will fail an MOT
- Starting by stripping the forks we will go through the whole process of a fork service (link)
- We will then send the fork tubes to be rechromed
- On the arrival of the fork tubes they will be assembled as per fork service (link)
